Adding DirectFax to specific Microsoft Teams channels

  1. Make your way to the Microsoft Teams channel you wish to add DirectFax to, in the message field begin typing “@”.

  2. The Get Bots suggestion will appear, click the suggestion:

  3. The Add a bot pop-up window appears. If you have used DirectFax recently, you can select it from Recent. Alternatively, you can use the search box to search for DirectFax.

  4. Click Add on the DirectFax page:

Now you can type “@DirectFax” within the channel to start using the DirectFax bot.

  5. Next, go to the etherFAX clients portal at and sign into your account.

  6. On the left-hand side choose Devices and then + Enrollment in the upper-right corner:

  7. Then click Generate Code and copy the code:

  8. From there go back to the Teams Channel you added DirectFax to and type the following: “@DirectFax register device” followed by the code you copied from the clients portal. Then click Enter.

  9. You will receive a message from the DirectFax bot saying your channel has been successfully registered.

We can confirm our account is ready to start faxing by typing “@DirectFax get status” and clicking Enter and seeing that Enabled is set to True:

Faxes cannot be received at this instance until a DID is assigned to it.

Although this establishes the channel to receive faxes, sending from this channel is only permitted to those who have registered. If this is desired, other users within the channel will need to follow the steps above.
